High School Days

I'm horribly derivative today, but SRH's recent post on high school got me thinking about my high school days, and Nancy's recent post gave me the link to a quiz re: high schoool, and voila this post was made.

All American Kid

Popular but not plastic. Athletic but not a jock. Smart but not a brain.

You were well rounded and well liked in high school.

While I think the title, "All American Kid" is pretty accurate, and I was popular but not plastic - I hope! - I'm not sure about the rest. I was a competitive gymnast until I blew out my knee, and then I was a cheerleader. (Much to SRH's chagrin). And really, I was pretty smart - or at least I got all A's, which may not be the same thing.

What type of kid were you in high school?

I got the same result that you did, which did not surprise me. I was hyper-involved in activities, got along well with everyone, got mostly straight-A's (with the exception of math, which continues to be the bane of my existence), and generally had a fabulous time.

I also had a great time at my 10-year reunion. It was wonderful to see my old friends, they had an open bar and a dance floor, and the girl who stole my 9th grade dance date has gotten fat. Cheers!

I am not at all surprised at your results. You and I are peas in a pod - except one of the peas is an extreme extrovert the other is not.

Upon further reflection, however, I wonder if you might be the only other person I know who actually enjoyed high school like I did. It occured to me that SRH wouldn't fill out this quiz 1) because he would find it stupid and 2) he wouldn't want to think about his high school experience for one second longer than he had to.

I do believe that many folks might feel that way. Hence, responding to this particular post might be like picking scabs for some people.

Glad I could do that for folks.

I was a band geek and a bit nieve and way to serious. If I knew then what I know now I would have partied more, studied less and worried less of what other people thought of me. I'd have to say I was one of the popular bandies (whatever that means!) and ended up with some really good friends from it. I didn't hate high school, nor did I like it very much. I would say that none of my classmates would ever say anything bad about me, but most would just not remember me. Even though I was one of the tallest kids, I probably blended in more than most. I'm looking forward to my 10 year reunion next year to see what became of everyone. Most of my friends that I keep in touch with aren't looking forward to it (they would consider going back still single and struggling with a career path is torchure), but I'm happy with where my life it right now. I have nothing to hide.

Below is the result I got, not at all shocking. Thanks for coming over today. Monday?

Arty Kid

Whether you were a drama freak or an emo poet, you definitely were expressive and unique.

You're probably a little less weird these days - but even more talented!

Unfortunately, I don't think I'm any less weird...I just have found more people who enjoy that quality about me! woo-hoo!!!

I think that high school years are second only to junior high years in terms of amount of pure torture that one endures. So the fact that you didn't hate it, must mean that it was a pretty decent experience for you.

Enjoy your 10 year reunion - remember most of the people who are married with kids and have a firm career path are miserably unhappy people. They're just faking it really well!

The more I hear about KJ, the more I like that woman.

My high school wasn't big enough to have a choir, so I'm a bit jealous. Not that I can sing. I can't, but it would have been nice to have options. (We did, however, get up to 5 days excused absence for the beginning of deer hunting season).

All hail king of the choir geeks!

It was great to see you and the ladies yesterday.

I am not surprised with your art-y-ness and creativity. It still fits. After all, who else could come up with a lunch for 8 children, one of whom has so many allergies his parents barely know what to feed him, and have it beautifully laid out on flower plates within ten minutes flat? I'm in awe.

Monday - definitely.

Oh, how intersting it is to be your friend. So very, very interesting.

Everything happens for a reason, right? Even really stupid "do over" marriages?

I am a bit surprised. I don't think most engineers would have come out as arty kids in this quiz. You are so multifaceted.

Neat link! According to quiz, I was an Arty Kid. It made me sound a lot cooler than I actually felt when I was in school.

I'm always impressed by the arty folks. Not a bit of arty in this mama. Not one ounce.

Also, I think we all felt a lot less cool in high school than we were. I loved that time of my life, but you couldn't pay me to go back there.
